The Filipino-Canadian Scholarship Voucher is a scholarship program launched by Filipino-Canadian women based in Toronto Canada in effort to open educational opportunities to Filipino youth in the Philippines. Its membership include the President of North York Allied Institute and several alumni of the College Department of North York who are successfully working in Canada, pitched in their collaborative effort to put up this scholarship funding.
As a pilot project last year, it was initially offered to pupils of Casabangan Elementary School, a school in one of the poor municipalities of the province of Masbate. As a extension of its service and with a funding of Php 2 million pesos for this year, the Filipino-Canadian Women Association offered the Canadian Scholarship Voucher at North York Allied Institute. This means that starting this coming school year 2009-2010, its offers a P5,000 voucher to incoming Grade 1 pupils, P10,000 voucher to incoming first year students and a P5,000 voucher to old students.
These scholarship voucher however, is on a limited basis only and will be granted on a first-come-first served basis. The voucher for old students has 50 available slots only and as of today March 16, 2009 we only have 2 remaining slots available. We are coordinating with Fil-Can Women Association in order to increase the number of voucher for old students.
